Local artist Stickman gets signed with Michael Godard Fine Art Associates

Edmonton…West Edmonton Mall’s Edition Gallery will be hosting local and international artist, Trevor Stickel aka Stickman, on July 21, 2012 at 4:00 pm. Editions Gallery will be showcasing Stickman Fine Art and hosting the artist as he demonstrates his unique technique and unveiling his latest creation.

Trevor Stickel, the artist behind Stickman Fine Art was recently signed with Michael Godard Fine Art Associates. Remember the rocking olive art, that’s Godard. Through a series of serendipitous emails, Trevor was able to grab the attention of the international rock artist and got himself a ticket to Vegas to show off his art in person and a contract!

There was thought and strategy to his approach. Although Stickman is an artist at heart he is a savvy business person as well. He compiled a list of six publishers that he wanted to target. “Michael Godard was number one on my list for two reasons: He was the number one selling artist in North America (why not start at the top), and he is known as the Rock Star of the art world and I believe that suited me and my subject matter,” said Trevor.

Trevor sent Godard an e-mail with four photos of his work. “I remember receiving an email that said something like, the person who handles this type of thing for me will be in contact within a few days” said Trevor. He was then contacted by President of Michael Godard Fine Art Associates shortly after that.

Once they established that both parties were on the same page, they requested to see some pieces live. He sent down four paintings. Godard himself asked to purchase one of the pieces for his own home (Ozzy). After viewing the work, they requested a meeting in person in Las Vegas. A contract followed a few months later.

They started distribution in Las Vegas and Atlantic City before being picked up by Editions Gallery in Alberta (Calgary, Red Deer and two galleries in Edmonton). In addition to Editions show in Edmonton (July 21), Trevor will be featured in a two day solo show for Signature Galleries at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas (Sept.21 and 22). Signature galleries have seven galleries throughout Vegas, Tahoe and Hawaii.

 Backgrounder

Trevor Stickel was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. His love of all things Albertan – hockey, beer, and rock and roll – helped mold and influence Trevor into the artist and business person he is today. He’s not your typical starving artist. In fact, Trevor approaches his art with raw passion, yet has the business sense to nurture and grow his talent into a sustainable business without compromising his artistic integrity.

Trevor “Stickman” Stickel specializes in musically based portraits that capture legendary moments, powerful ideas and raw emotions. His work is described as gritty-yet-fresh, complex-yet-simple.

Graduation from a Jekyll and Hyde influence early in his career in which he divided his time between family portraits and design work on helmets and Harleys – Trevor had the epiphany to combine both styles while reading “According to the Rolling Stones.” Two weeks later he finished his first canvas portrait of Mick Jagger that would thrust him into a different realm of the art world and aptly titled it “Please allow me to introduce myself.”

Trevor considers himself somewhat of the artist equivalent of a method actor – he envelopes himself with the subject’s music, literature, videos and documentaries for the period of time that he spends with them in front of the canvas.

When asked, “What do you paint?” he often answers with, “I’m a wildlife artist.” While this answer is a tongue in cheek response, he does tend to gravitate towards the decadent side of the music industry. He often picks subjects that have lived hard, fast and on their own terms.
